Xaquín Marín Formoso
Born in Ferrol in 1943. Begins his career as a painter, although he has always been interested in humour. Encouraged by Reimundo Patiño, publishes his first pictures in "Chan" -Galician magazine- in 1971.
Later, goes on publishing in a number of magazines and papers, from Galicia and abroad, such as "Gaceta Universitaria", "Pueblo", "S.P.", "Hermano Lobo", "La Codorniz", "Posible", "El Ideal Gallego", "Teima", "A Nosa Terra", "Tempo Galego", "Le Telegramme" (Brest), "Diario 16", "O Ensino", "Luzes de Galiza", "Follas Secas", "A Ameixa Cacofónica", "Encrucillada", "Valium 10", "Caritas", "Can sen Dono", "La Golondriz"... and so different publications such as L'Ouest (France), Interviu, Cam L'Arp, El Ecologista, Norte (México), etc.
Since 1988 we smile at his cartoon on page 9 of the Galician daily newspaper "La Voz de Galicia" and at his comic strip published every Sunday on the same journal.
Xaquín´s works have been showed in more than a hundred exhibitions, either joint or indivudual, all around Galician and in Madrid, Barcelona, Santander, L'Orient, San Juan de Puerto Rico, La Habana, Gavrobo (Bulgaria), Philadelphia...
His works have been collected in books such as "Gaspariño", "Gaspariño II", "Dúas viaxe" -with Reimundo Patiño- , "Ratas", "Alcacén para gaitas", "Dos pés á testa", "Debuxos de humor" -with Siro López-, "Xunta e Revolta", "O home que falaba Arameo", "Cen pés", "Vistos para sentencia" , etc.
He is, together with Reimundo Patiño, one of the pioneers of Galician (made in Galicia and written in Galician) comic. Xaquín has won a number of prizes, among them: 3rd Merlín Prize, Paleta Agromán, Vieira do Humor, Galicia Prize of Journalism, House of Humour of Gavrobo (Bulgaria)...
He has also painted pictures for books, posters, stickers, covers, articles...
Nowadays brings his creative work into line with the management of the Museum of Humour of Fene.
